Presbyterian Herald News Update – April 11, 2024: Inauguration and Dedication Service of Jesus Sanctuary Sungnam Presbyterian Church
Today marks a significant milestone in the history of the Presbyterian Church of the Philippines as the Jesus Sanctuary Sungnam Presbyterian Church, under the Rizal Presbytery, was inaugurated and dedicated in a solemn ceremony. This event, made possible through the generous support of Jinju Sungnam Presbyterian Church from South Korea for Philippine Mission, symbolizes the ongoing commitment to strengthen the Presbyterian mission in the Philippines.
The dedication service was attended by esteemed members of the Presbyterian community, including the Executive Committee of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the Philippines, led by General Secretary Rev. Orlando Tabotabo, Treasurer Elder Leonardo Canto, and VM Nelson Dangan. Also present were the Executive Committee of the Rizal Presbytery, headed by Moderator Rev. Alex Landeza and VM Arturo Dumayag, along with other officers and members of the Rizal Presbytery. During the service, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the Philippines, Execom, delivered a short message regarding what God has accomplished for the Jesus Sanctuary Sungnam Presbyterian Church under the Moderatorship of Rev. Napoleon Capili.
The old building was demolished, and a new building for the Jesus Sanctuary Sungnam Presbyterian Church, spanning three floors, has been erected. This new facility will serve as the home for various important institutions, including the Jesus Sanctuary Sungnam Presbyterian Church, Rizal Presbytery Office, IGSL, and CAR Mission. This consolidation aims to strengthen both the Rizal Presbytery and the General Assembly of Presbyterian Churches in the Philippines (GAPCP), fostering unity and collaboration among the Presbyterian community.
Following the momentous occasion, the Execom of the GAPCP proceeded to Baguio City, accompanied by Mission Committee Rev. Elimar Eleazar and Rev. Nelson Carillo, to prepare for the upcoming 2nd Mission Conference scheduled from April 30 to May 2, 2024. As part of their visit, the ministers took the opportunity to pray for the goodwill and effective leadership of Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong. In a gesture of appreciation, the Execom presented Mayor Magalong with a token of welcome—a book symbolizing gratitude to the city for its support and hospitality.
This event underscores the Presbyterian Church’s commitment to mission and community engagement, both locally and internationally, as it continues to spread the message of faith, love, and service across borders and cultures.
