Presbyterian Herald News Update: Mission Committee’s Vital Role in GAPCP

By Rev. Gil Delas Armas (PubCom)

In a recent statement, Rev. Elimar Eleazar, Chairman of the Mission Committee, underscored the pivotal role played by this committee within the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the Philippines. Let’s delve into the existing provisions outlined in ARTICLE IX regarding the Mission Committee’s responsibilities:

1. Composition of Standing Committees:

The General Assembly comprises several standing committees, each with specific functions. Among these, the Mission Committee stands out as a catalyst for advancing God’s kingdom.

2. Duties of the Mission Committee:

The Mission Committee has significant responsibilities, including:

Programs and Policies: It formulates programs and policies related to both home and foreign missions. This strategic planning ensures effective outreach.

Monitoring Ongoing Mission Works: The committee actively oversees the progress of mission initiatives within the GAPCP.

Commissioning Missionary Candidates: Identifying and equipping missionaries is crucial. The committee examines and commissions candidates, sending them to the field.

Fundraising for Mission Programs: Financial support is essential for mission work. The committee raises funds to sustain and expand mission-related endeavors.

Promoting Mission Awareness: Within the bounds of GAPCP, the committee fosters awareness about global missions. This includes educating local churches and congregations.

Strategic Target Areas for Church Planting: The committee recommends specific regions where church planting efforts can flourish.

Stimulating Daughter Churches: Encouraging existing churches to establish daughter churches ensures multiplication and community impact.

Church Vitality and Development: The committee actively develops resources and programs to promote church planting, evangelism, and overall church vitality.

3. Biblical Foundation:

These responsibilities align with Jesus’ Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20) to make disciples of all nations. The early church in Acts exemplified both numerical growth (Acts 2:41) and spiritual vitality (Acts 2:42–47).

In summary, the Mission Committee’s multifaceted role contributes significantly to the flourishing of GAPCP. Let us continue to pray for their wisdom, dedication, and impact in advancing God’s mission! 🌿🙏🏽These duties and responsibilities have been expounded for the GAPCP Mission Committee by Publication Committee
